The Universal Family

Evolving maturity…….is that what we are?  A flicker of a light growing in intensity over the many lives, many moments of learning our lessons of being love.  The tiny speck of luminescence that draws to it the potential of teachings that when commitment and courage are present, slowly or spontaneously grow until it transforms and explodes  into blinding light.

Are we evolving through and past our families of origin and growing into the awareness of Home?…..the birthplace of our Universal Family.  As we heal our wounded selves and begin to recognize the peacefulness in our hearts as that for which we have been searching all our lives, we see that all people and things are our Family.  We move past the need to have others fulfill us.  We have learned to be the nurturer and protector of ourselves.  We revel in the joy of connection; now we no longer carry expectations for others to make us whole.  We are whole.  We have integrated the mother/father aspects of our teachers into our hearts.  And for that process we have deep gratitude.

We may ask ourselves…….in this moment who is our Higher Power…where are we focusing our attention…….is it still other people, conditions, and things?  If the answer moves beyond our earthly teachers, we no longer project our beliefs and demands about our parents onto God (or whatever concept works….).  God will not abandon us, God will not judge us as lacking.  God is trust.  God is free to be.   God is walking among us; God is resting quietly as the rock on the shore, flying high as the eagle riding the thermals, working the cash register at the nearby grocery store; loving in friends next door and far across the world, lying deep inside the greediest corporation, pulsing at the core of corrupt political systems, always present, always available to be known, never needing to be.

We are like the lighthouse on the shore…….continually cleaning our windows so that our light may shine through……allowing us to join  with the myriad of other diamond lights shining brightly……exponentially increasing our power of transformation.   We are family.

Afraid of Fire

“None can teach you, none can make you spiritual.   There is no other teacher but your own soul.” Swami Vivekananda

The power of uncertainty is flowing through and around us.  Some days we breathe deeply, relax and float with it; other times we stiffen up, grab onto whatever is close with a tight fist, and rigidly watch through squinty eyes as life passes us by.  It is our choice.  Sometimes we forget we have a choice and become victims of the happenings of our lives.  We lose our center and then fall in the mud.

We get so tied up in not trusting the process of life.  Within wholeness is the duality of dark and light.   In our core, we are light.  Being human invites us to both celebrate the light and to integrate the dark.  Well, the first part is great, the second not so much, we say to ourselves.  We are afraid of the fire of transformation.

Watching American Idol, yes, that is true!  I am reminded of Crystal Bowersox……MamaSox.  Here she comes from a small town to millions of people watching her every move and listening and judging her every note. She dresses and wears her hair as she likes, speaks thoughtfully as she transitions into a new lifestyle…..expressing the uniqueness of her Being.   Her boyfriend and she decide to not continue their relationship and he goes home on the day of the  final performance!    Her response?  It gives her ‘fire in her belly.”  And if you saw her perform that night…….she was not afraid of the fire……she faced it, made it her own and sang beautifully.

From 12 Step programs we hear the statement……there are no victims,  just volunteers.   Our soul brings us experiences for us to integrate.  They are gifts in their teachings to us.  As we move through the darkness, the clouds lift and the light shines from our hearts.  It’s not easy because we are human and full of emotions; it does not have to be difficult and scary.  We are always surrounded in love; we are never alone.  We are guided on our path to integration.  We pray, meditate, contemplate that all loving energies around us surround us with wisdom and compassion for ourselves so that we may love ourselves deeply as we transform the clouds of doubt about who we really are…….into the heart knowing that we are love.   May we all experience ‘fire in our belly’ when we are challenged to move more deeply  into wholeness.

You are the Diamond!

Hunting for the diamond necklace

That is already around your neck!”

— Jalal-Uddin Rumi

Aren’t we funny creatures?  Sometimes we think some teacher has the answer for us, some new material thing will make us finally happy, some relationship or job will make it all ok, or whatever…….and all the time it was US that we were looking for……….our inner Essence is what makes our hearts smile.  And it doesn’t matter how many heartbeats it takes to get us there…….all that matters is that we slow down, become quiet and connect with our deepest Self.  Doesn’t cost a cent, no travel time, no luggage to pack, no clubs to join……it is always within us…..just waiting for us to awaken.  How very cool!  Have a dazzling week, you beautiful diamonds.  Andrea

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride: When the Soul is in the Driver’s Seat

In these days of uncertainty and rapid change, it can feel like we are on a wild ride.  If you remember the Disneyland ride of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride from your childhood, it brings a smile as you warmly reflect on all the high-pitched screams in the darkness as the 1990s motorcar crashed through a wall into the library where MacBadger  is on a ladder with books teetering over your head while you crashed through the fireplace with ashes and sparks of fire flying all around.  (For those who want to remember the good old times, the rest of the ride is described in Wikipedia.)

As a child, I loved this ride.  As soon as I got off the motorcar, I ran to the back of the waiting line.  The ride scared me and I loved it.  It was a way for all of us to test how we could integrate into our developing minds scary events that we knew existed in our world.   Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was a safe way to learn about handling fear as a child.

Riding in Mr. Toad’s car was beneficial because we  slowly learned that none of it could hurt us.  Somehow the books never hit us, the fire was harmless, the train with its bright light zeroing in on us never hit us. Then we could just scream for the pure pleasure of screaming.  We knew we were safe.

The ride also has teachings for us as an adult moving through this world as it is now.  If our ego….that energetic place of resistance within us to the realization of who we truly are………is driving our car then we are going to fuse with the emotions of anger, fear, and a need to control the external world and the our inner world.  That is all the ego knows.  It’s job is to protect us and it is endlessly trying to accomplish that feat.  To do so, we tend to fall into our stories and languish there. Is It Me or My Intuition?

Andrea Avari Stevens, Ph.D.

Intuition is a gift from the Light to each and every one of us. It is like being plugged into a direct cell phone line open to the higher realms of consciousness. When we are stumbling along the path, attempting to walk our talk, the line is always open, ready and willing to assist us in our desire to expand our consciousness.

So what stands in our way to being in tune with our intuition? What causes the static on our lines? As always…..the answer lies within us. And that is a good thing because it is really the only concept over which we have any control. The only person we can control is ourselves. More
